Liverpool want Thomas Lemar to replace Philippe Coutinho, but will not pursue the midfielder if Monaco continue to seek £90m for him.
According to The Sunday Times, manager Jurgen Klopp is keen for the £142m Barcelona paid for Coutinho to be reinvested wisely, meaning the Reds could wait until the summer to try and secure a better deal.
Arsenal were said to be willing to pay £92m for the 22-year-old France international in the summer, but a deal fell through with reports claiming Lemar was not prepared to play in the Europa League and favoured a switch to Liverpool.
The Reds believe something closer to £60m is more reasonable and are currently weighing up alternatives, one of which includes Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic, 19.
Meanwhile, RB Leipzig have released a statement claiming midfielder Naby Keita will not be moving to Anfield until July 2018.
