The transfer rumour mill is going into overdrive on Merseyside thanks to Philippe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona.
The Brazilian playmaker will be sorely missed at Anfield and ideally will need to be replaced before the end of the month.
Monaco forward Thomas Lemar has previously been mooted as the Reds’ number one choice to replace Coutinho, but things have gone quiet over a potential transfer.

Lorenzo Insigne (Napoli) – Luring away one of Napolis leading men may prove a step too far in the January transfer window. Maurizio Sarris side sit top of Serie A and are pushing hard to claim the Scudetto ahead of Juventus and Inter Milan. The Reds will have been encouraged by Mohamed Salahs seamless transition from life in Italy to the Premier League and would hope a marquee signing such as Insigne, would bring similar results. Alejandro Gomez (Atalanta) – The 29-year-old has emerged as a potential replacement for Coutinho, according to the Daily Mirror, after his impressive performances for La Dea this season. Gomez has scored seven goals and is considered to be a dead-ball specialist for a side challenging for a European qualification spot. However, Liverpool will be expected to part with a considerable fee if they want to prize away the playmaker from the Italian outfit. Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City) – Mahrez was falsely reported to be undergoing a medical with Liverpool last Sunday following speculation in France. The Reds are understood to have made unofficial contact through Mahrezs intermediaries about a potential transfer but have yet to enter into concrete negotiations. The Leicester City winger would be an exciting addition to an already hugely entertaining Liverpool attack. But worries about his work ethic could force Jurgen Klopp into a rethink. Manuel Lanzini (West Ham) – The majority of Liverpools fan base are unlikely to welcome a move for the West Ham playmaker. Replacing Coutinho with a Premier League tested player would be a sensible but possibly underwhelming move by a side who have aspirations to challenge for the title. The Argentinian is entering his third season with the Hammers and could see his star rise further under the guidance of Klopp at Anfield. Suso (AC Milan) – Coincidentally, Susos potential impact at Liverpool was affected by the arrival of a certain Philippe Coutinho in 2012. The Spaniard was considered to be the crown jewel of the Reds academy and was subsequently promoted to the first-team. The 24-year-old has flourished with AC Milan since his 2015 departure and could be tempted to prove his critics wrong in England with a return to Merseyside.
