Liverpool have made an enquiry to sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar for a club record fee of £55million, according to reports.
The Reds’ pursuit of the French international is not said to be linked to the future of midfielder Philippe Coutinho, with the Brazilian playmaker handing in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move to Barcelona.
Liverpool have rejected three bids to date for Coutinho and remain adamant he will not be sold this summer, despite being offered £115million by the Catalan giants.
Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Lemar but manager Arsene Wenger declared their pursuit of the forward as ‘dead’ after failing to agree a fee.
However, The Telegraph reports Monaco are unlikely to sanction a sale for Lemar as they aim to negotiate an even larger fee for one of Europe’s rising talents next summer.
Monaco have already sold a host of key players this summer with Tiemoue Bakayoko, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva all departing the Stade Louis II.
Kylian Mbappe is also set to complete a money-spinning move to Paris Saint-Germain in the coming days.
